Apply

The process of application is completely individualized and consists of a review of the inquirer’s background and proposals for a programme of study. It is possible to apply and start a programme of study at any time of the year. Each application is treated entirely on its own merits. We try to respond quickly to applicants, and to keep them informed of the progress of their application via email.

Usually, having first read this website thoroughly, applicants have formed a clear idea of their aims and the potential route to achieving them. If they are aiming for a programme by research or with a strong element of self-design, they will have some view of what their learning contract may look like, even if this has yet to be worked out in detail. Information on research proposals is given here.

The University is designed principally for Christians who are seeking a religious vocational programme from an institution that is Biblically-centred and not constrained by secular agendas. The University is open to members of all Christian denominations. However, the University does not impose a specific requirement of faith or religious affiliation upon applicants and accepts that there may be others from diverse backgrounds who wish, for whatever reason, to pursue a programme within the University’s Christian ethos.

Requests for programme guidance

If an enquirer wishes to enquire about a specific aspect of a programme, about the availability of a programme not listed on the website, or about other aspects of studying with the University, they should make contact via email and must also send a copy of their curriculum vitæ or resume.

Applying for a place on the distance learning programme

There is no fee for application.

The applicant should firstly complete and send an email, giving a brief summary of their application.

Once this has been done we will then need to review the following items from the candidate for admission:

  • A copy of the identity page of a government-issued ID document or passport;
  • A full resumé or curriculum vitæ;
  • Copies of educational certificates and transcripts;
  • A written proposal detailing the degree to be sought and the route by which this may be achieved.

This is usually followed by a consideration of whether mentoring for the proposal can be provided with the resources available. At this stage, informal discussion may take place with the proposed mentor and the learning contract may take shape.

When the process is complete and the University has both received all documents required and confirmed with the candidate that their programme is viable, the candidate will receive the course place acceptance form. This formalizes the details of their application and states the terms and conditions applicable to the candidate’s studies. The candidate will need to sign the form to indicate their acceptance of the offer and associated terms. At the same time, the candidate will submit the first payment of fees. Following receipt of these items, the candidate will be formally matriculated onto their programme of study.

A course place offer is valid for up to three months. After this time, the applicant will need to submit a new application.

Important notes for applicants

Before making application, the prospective applicant should satisfy themselves that the degree or diploma of the University will be suitable for their present and anticipated future needs. In doing so they should be aware of the content of the status and recognition pages on this website and should also make enquiries, in advance, of any third party from whom they may require acceptance of their credential. The University makes no claims of acceptance by third parties except where a specific agreement exists to that effect.

By making application, the applicant confirms that they understand that all credentials granted by the Western Orthodox University Faculties of Theology and Church Music are granted on the basis of its status as a religious institution that meets the requirements found in Section 1005.06(1)(f), Florida Statutes and Rule 6E-5.001, Florida Administrative Code. The University is not under the jurisdiction or purview of the Commission for Independent Education and is not required to obtain licensure or accreditation.
